Duke Georg Alexander of Mecklenburg-Strelitz died suddenly on 5 December 1909, aged fifty. He was buried in the palace of Oranienbaum, the summer residence in the Gulf of Finland of his family.

Georg Alexander, Duke of Mecklenburg (German: Georg Alexander Herzog zu Mecklenburg; 27 August 1921 – 26 January 1996) was the head of the House of Mecklenburg-Strelitz from 1963 until his death.
The now Duke Georg Alexander became heir apparent and hereditary prince on 6 December 1934 upon the death of his great uncle and succession of his father as head of the House of Mecklenburg-Strelitz.
His Highness Georg Alexander Michael Friedrich Wilhelm Franz Carl, Duke of Mecklenburg, Prince of Wenden, Schwerin and Ratzeburg, Count of Schwerin, Lord of the Lands of Rostock and Stargard, was born on 6 June 1859 at the Remplin Palace.
