Born Alexander Friedrich Konstantin Petrovich of Oldenburg, he was the second son of Duke Peter Georgievich of Oldenburg and his wife Princess Therese of Nassau-Weilburg. Though he had a German title and ancestry, he and his siblings were born and raised in St. Petersburg, Russia as the grandchildren of Grand Duchess Catherine Pavlovna of Russia.

May 17, 2018 - Duke Alexander Petrovich of Oldenburg (1844-1932) was the third child of Duke Peter Georgievich of Oldenburg. Through his father, Alexander was a great-grandchild of Emperor Paul I of Russia. In 1868, he married Princess Eugenia Maximilianovna of Leuchtenberg, a granddaughter of Emperor Nicholas I of Russia. Their son married Emperor Nicholas II's sister, Olga Alexandrovna.

Peter Alexandrovich of Oldenburg ( Peter Friedrich Georg, Duke of Oldenburg) ( 21 November 1868 – 11 March 1924) was the first husband of Grand Duchess Olga Alexandrovna of Russia, the youngest sister of Tsar Nicholas II.
Known as "Peter Georgievich," he was the second son of Duke George of Oldenburg and HIH Grand Duchess Catherine Pavlovna Romanov. Because Duke George himself was the second son of the reigning Duke of Oldenburg, with no real prospects of inheriting the Oldenburg family's estate or fortune. he had travelled to Russia to seek his fortune in St. Petersburg.
