Durham Museum (formerly Durham Museum and Heritage Centre) is a museum in Durham, England. It details the history of the City of Durham from medieval times to the present day. The museum is located in the redundant church of St Mary-le-Bow, close to the World Heritage Site of Durham Cathedral and Durham Castle . [1]

The name probably derives from "Dun-holme", or hill-island, because it's set on a ridge above a tight loop of the River Wear. On this peninsula lies the well-preserved old core of the city, with an imposing Norman Cathedral and Castle.
