When it came time to vote in my first election, it was Obama vs. Romney, and Romney was promising to end the ACA. Conservatism has always been anti-democratic. The movement was founded as a knee-jerk response to the French revolution. Its basic tenant was minority rule by aristocrats. Of course the person who had the idea, Edmund Burke, was an aristocrat. Thomas Paine wrote a really good rebuttal to it in his book Rights of Man.
