Edmund Sheffield, 1st Earl of Mulgrave, 3rd Baron Sheffield, KG (7 December 1564 – 6 October 1646 [1]) was a British peer and Member of Parliament, who served as Lord Lieutenant of Yorkshire from 1603 to 1619 and Vice-Admiral of Yorkshire from 1604 to 1646. He was created Earl of Mulgrave in 1626.

Edmund Sheffield, 1st Earl of Mulgrave (creation of 1626) Henry Phipps, 1st Earl of Mulgrave (creation of 1812) The first creation was in the Peerage of England in 1626 for Edmund Sheffield, 3rd Baron Sheffield KG , who served as Lord Lieutenant of Yorkshire from 1603 to 1619.
He was granted the manor of Mulgrave, Yorkshire in 1591 and demonstrated his allegiance by strenuously persecuting local Catholics, who denounced his for his harshness and claimed the early deaths of all six of his sons with Ursula as divine retribution.

He was the son of : Douglas Howard (b. 1542/3 - bur. 11 Dec 1608 St. Margaret's, Westminster), and her first husband, John Sheffield, 2nd Baron Sheffield (d. 10 Dec 1568).
