Edward Villiers (Master of the Mint) Sir Edward Villiers (c. 1585 – 7 September 1626) was an English nobleman from Leicestershire and member of the Villiers family, whose younger half-brother George Villiers, 1st Duke of Buckingham, was a favourite of both James VI and I and his son Charles.

A notorious character whose ascendance from middling nobility to trusted favourite of one King James I – plotted by his mother, Mary – can only be described as meteoric.

Sir Edward Villiers was baptised in the Abbey on 15th April 1620, son of Sir Edward Villiers (died 1626) half brother to George 1st Duke of Buckingham, and his wife Barbara, daughter of Sir John St John of Lydiard Tregoz in Wiltshire. Barbara was buried 16th September 1672 in the north ambulatory near St Paul's chapel
Through his influence, Sir Edward gained various positions, including Master of the Mint, Member of Parliament for Westminster and Lord President of Munster. He died in Ireland in September 1626.
Edward Villiers 1656-1711 - created Earl of Jersey in 1697. A leading Tory politician opposed to the Whig Junto, he was made Southern Secretary in 1699. Col. Edward married, secondly, Martha Love on 25 February 1684.
