Eleanor "Nelly" Rose Madison (née Conway; January 9, 1731 – February 11, 1829) was a prominent Virginia socialite and planter who was the mother of James Madison Jr., the 4th president of the United States and Lieutenant General William Taylor Madison.

Biography. Mother of James Madison 4th President of the United States. Eleanor was born in January 9, 1731 in Port Conway Caroline, Virginia. [1] Her birthplace of Port Conway is named after her family. She is the daughter of Francis Conway and Rebecca Catlett. She passed away in 1829.

1 de oct. de 2021 · James Madison Sr. and Eleanor Conway Madison arrange for a starter home to be built about half a mile from Mount Pleasant, at the site of the future Montpelier main house. 1764 James Madison Sr. instructs enslaved laborers to construct a two-story brick mansion on his property.
In a letter to Eleanor Conway Madison (the only surviving complete letter written by Martha), she says, “I undertake with chearfulness the duty of furnishing to my country women an opportunity of proving that they also participate of those virtuous feelings with gave birth to it.”
