The Electress of the Palatinate ( German: Kurfürstin von der Pfalz) was the consort of the Prince-elector of the Electorate of the Palatinate, one of the Holy Roman Empire 's greatest princes. The consorts usually referred to as Electresses, therefore, were: The Electress of the Palatinate; The Electress of Saxony; The Electress of Brandenburg. To these were added, in 1623 and 1692 respectively: The Electress of Bavaria; The Electress of Hanover.
Elizabeth Stuart (19 August 1596 – 13 February 1662) was Electress of the Palatinate and briefly Queen of Bohemia as the wife of Frederick V of the Palatinate. The couple's selection for the crown by the nobles of Bohemia was part of the political and religious turmoil setting off the Thirty Years' War.

Princess Elizabeth, Queen of Bohemia and Electress Palatine. (1596-1662), Daughter of James I; wife of Frederick V, Elector Palatine. Sitter associated with 45 portraits. Elizabeth was the only surviving daughter of James I. In 1613 she married Frederick, the Protestant ruler of the Palatinate, an area of present-day Germany.
