Ludwig II was probably the son of Ludwig I, Graf (Count) von Württemberg and an unnamed wife, and is thought to be born about 1137 [1] though there is no proof for this date. He succeeded his father as Graf von Württemberg sometime before 1166, and was named in a charter of Emperor Friedrich I, dated 18 May 1181 [2].
