Charles was the last surviving prince of his line, and, in an effort to preserve the Habsburg dominions, he issued the Pragmatic Sanction to allow Maria Theresa to succeed him.

Frederick II went as far as describing his wife as "this incorrigibly sour subspecies of the female sex."

On Oct. 4, 1767, William married Wilhelmina of Prussia, sister of the future Frederick William II.

Especially the sarcophagus of Duke Ludwig Rudolph of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel and his wife Christine Luise, Princess zu Oettingen-Oettingen are worth a closer look.
