Duchess Sophia of Saxe-Weissenfels. Princess Magdalena Augusta of Anhalt-Zerbst (13 October 1679 – 11 October 1740) was, by birth, a Princess of Anhalt-Zerbst and, by marriage, a Duchess of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg. She was the maternal grandmother of George III of the United Kingdom . She was born Princess Magdalena Augusta of Anhalt-Zerbst.
Frederick Augustus succeeded his father in Anhalt-Zerbst in 1747, at the age of thirteen. His mother, the Princess Johanna Elisabeth, acted as regent on his behalf until 1752. He was one of the sovereigns who supported Britain in the American Revolutionary War with soldiers. For this, he received a substantial monetary compensation.

Catherine was born on 2 May 1729 in Stettin, Province of Pomerania, Kingdom of Prussia, as Princess Sophia Augusta Frederica (Sophie Auguste Friederike) von Anhalt-Zerbst-Dornburg. Her mother was Joanna Elisabeth of Holstein-Gottorp. Her father, Christian August, Prince of Anhalt-Zerbst, belonged to the ruling German family of Anhalt.
Schloss Dornburg. Johanna Elisabeth von Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf (* 24. Oktober 1712 in Schloss Gottorf, Schleswig; † 30. Mai 1760 in Paris) war Fürstin und von 1747 bis 1752 auch Regentin von Anhalt-Zerbst sowie die Mutter der russischen Zarin Katharina II. und jüngere Schwester von Adolf Friedrich, König von Schweden .
Life. Dorothea was the daughter of Prince Rudolf of Anhalt-Zerbst (1576–1621) from his first marriage to Dorothea Hedwig (1587–1609), daughter of the Duke Henry Julius of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel . On 26 October 1623 she married in Zerbst with Duke August the Younger of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel (1579–1666). This was August's second marriage.
