Inspired by Swiss chalets and the Romantic movement, the king sought to create a tranquil and romantic getaway where he and the countess could escape the pressures of court life.
6 de may. de 2024 · After Queen Maria II died, Ferdinand married Elise Hensler in 1869. Elise was a Swiss-born opera singer who moved to the USA and was a huge lover of culture and the arts. Ferdinand fell in love with her after seeing her perform at the São Carlos National Theatre in Lisbon.
