Like her elder sister Bridget, we know almost nothing about the life of Elizabeth Cromwell (born 1629), the second of the Cromwells’ four daughters, until her marriage at Ely in 1646 to John Claypole. During the Protectorate, Claypole became Master of the Horse and he and his wife held apartments at Whitehall and Hampton Court.
Elizabeth Claypole, favourite daughter of Oliver Cromwell, is buried in Henry VII's chapel in Westminster Abbey. A small stone marks her burial place.
31 de mar. de 2024 · Her protracted illness and early death, in August 1658 contributed to Cromwell’s own decline. She was buried at Westminster Abbey. At the Restoration all of the commonwealth dignitaries buried there were removed, with the exception of Elizabeth whose grave was overlooked.
