When Elizabeth Stokes was born on 28 October 1638, in Newport, Buckinghamshire, England, her father, William Stokes, was 25 and her mother, Ellinor Smaleman, was 26. She married Nathaniel Potter in 1658, in Dartmouth, Bristol, Massachusetts Bay Colony, British Colonial America. They were the parents of at least 7 sons and 4 daughters.

The songs collected here are autobiographical, but they’re also character sketches of relationships – platonic, familial, romantic – and more importantly, their aftermaths.
