On 8 February 1561/2, James married Agnes Keith, daughter of William Keith, 4th Earl Marischal, at Holyrood. Agnes presented him with three daughters, Elizabeth Stuart, 2nd Countess of Moray (died 18 November 1591), who later married James Stewart, 2nd Earl of Moray.
Elizabeth Stuart, 2nd Countess of Moray suo jure (Late 1565 – 18 November 1591), was the daughter of James Stewart, 1st Earl of Moray and Agnes Keith. Between 23 January 1580 and 1581 she married James Stewart, son of the first Lord Doune, and they had five children:[1]
25 de dic. de 2023 · Moray's tomb was carved by John Roytell and Murdoch Walker, with a brass engraved by James Gray. His wife, Agnes Keith, was buried inside his tomb when she died in 1588. Moray was succeeded by his eldest daughter and heir, Elizabeth Stewart, 2nd Countess of Moray, whose husband, James Stewart of Doune acquired the earldom on their marriage.

13 de feb. de 2024 · James Stuart, 2nd Lord Doune was the son of James Stewart, 1st Lord Doune and Lady Margaret Campbell.1 He married Elizabeth Stewart, Countess of Moray, daughter of James Stewart, 1st Earl of Moray and Lady Anne Keith, on 23 January 1580/81.2 He was murdered on 7 February 1591/92 by George Gordon, 1st Marquess of Huntly, slashed to death.2
