Engelbert, Duke of Carinthia. Engelbert II (died 13 April 1141), a member of the House of Sponheim, was Margrave of Istria and Carniola from about 1103/07 until 1124. In 1123, he succeeded his elder brother Henry as Duke of Carinthia and Margrave of Verona which he held until his retirement in 1135.

22 de nov. de 2023 · Engelbert II (died 12 or 13 April 1141) was the Count of Sponheim from 1096 and Margrave of Istria and Carniola from sometime between 1101 and 1107 until 1124. 1108 he was founder of the county of Kraiburg in Bavaria. In 1124, he was raised to the Duchy of Carinthia and held it until his retirement in 1135.

Upon his death only one year later, he was succeeded by his brother Engelbert, whose descendants ruled in Carinthia until the death of Duke Ulrich III in 1269. Engelbert's younger son Rapoto became the ancestor of the Bavarian Ortenburg dynasty.
