Enrico Dandolo was the Venetian Doge who organized, financed, and schemed the 4th Crusade army's attack on Constantinople. He was also 97 years old, blind, and partially deaf. Despite these physical problems, Enrico lost none of his mental capacities and his formidable mind masterminded the attack.
The only true historical mention of him is much later, from the 14th century (by chroniclers Nicolò Trevisan and Enrico Dandolo, referring to the Pactum Lotharii signed between the Carolingian Emperor Lothair I and Doge Pietro Tradonico).
