Erdmann August himself died four years later, aged thirty-five, in the middle of the preparations of his wedding with Sophie Agnes of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. Because he predeceased his father, his son Christian Ernst succeeded as Margrave of Brandenburg-Bayreuth in 1655.

Sophie murió el 3 de diciembre de 1646. El propio Erdmann August murió cuatro años después, a la edad de treinta y cinco años, en medio de los preparativos de su boda con Sophie Agnes de Mecklemburgo-Schwerin. Debido a que falleció antes que su padre, su hijo Christian Ernst sucedió como margrave de Brandeburgo-Bayreuth en 1655.

Georg Albrecht's older brother, Hereditary Margrave Erdmann August, died in 1651, four years before the death of their father. However, despite the fact he was the only surviving son of his father, he couldn't inherit Bayreuth, because the late prince left a son, Christian Ernst (born in 1644) who replaced him in the line of succession.
