Simpson divorced his first wife, with whom he had a daughter, to marry Wallis in 1928. The Simpsons set up a house in the wealthy London neighborhood of Mayfair.

Ernest was then still married to Dorothea Webb Dechert, with whom he had a daughter named Audrey (born in 1924).
