Ernest II (Ernst August Karl Johann Leopold Alexander Eduard; 21 June 1818 – 22 August 1893) was the sovereign duke of the Duchy of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, reigning from 1844 to his death. Ernest was born in Coburg as the eldest child of Ernest III, Duke of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld , and his duchess, Princess Louise of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg .
Ernest Brooks II, a pioneer in diving and underwater photography, and renowned educator, ocean conservationist and philanthropist, has died. Brooks passed away of heart failure on November 17 at his home in Lacey, Washington. He was 85. Brooks was born to be a photographer.

Ernest II was Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha from January 29, 1844—when he succeeded his father, Ernest I, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha—to August 22, 1893, till his death. He was the older brother of Prince Albert, consort to Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom, and shared a very close relationship with him despite minor disagreements occasionally.
