The Evangelical-Lutheran Church of Saxony (Evangelisch-Lutherische Landeskirche Sachsens) is one of 20 member Churches of the Protestant Church in Germany (EKD), covering most of the state of Saxony. Its headquarters are in Dresden , and the seat of the bishop (styled Bishop of Saxony) [1] is at Meissen Cathedral .
It was founded in 1945 from a merger of the historic states of Mecklenburg (which made up about two thirds of the area of the new state) and that part of the former Prussian province of Western Pomerania ( Vorpommern ), west of the Oder-Neiße Line, that remained in Germany.
