Prince Harry also made an unexpected appearance in London in March 2023, when he attended a court hearing as part of legal action he is taking against a number of publisher.
After much speculation, Prince Harry attended the King's coronation in May without his wife.
Television and podcasts
The Sussexes' media company, Archewell Productions, makes various programmes for Netflix in an arrangement thought to be worth millions of dollars.
This included the Harry & Meghan documentary series in which the couple talked about life in the Royal Family.
In August, the five-part documentary series Heart of Invictus was released, in which Harry describes his emotional "unravelling" after military service in Afghanistan in 2013.
Archewell also made podcasts for Spotify, including Archetypes, in which Meghan talked to other high-profile women. The contract was estimated to be worth $25m (£18m) in late 2020 but ended in June 2023.
The couple were interviewed by US presenter Oprah Winfrey in March 2021, but said they were not paid for the appearance.
Annual income
As working royals, they received 95% of their annual income from Harry's father, then Prince of Wales.
In the financial year 2018-2019 (the first year of their marriage), Charles's Duchy of Cornwall estate provided more than £5m to cover the public duties - and some private expenses - of the Sussexes, and of Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, then the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
The taxpayer-funded Sovereign Grant made up the other 5%.
Charles subsequently gave them "a substantial sum" to support their transition to financial independence.
Duchy of Cornwall accounts show that the couple - along with Prince William and Catherine - received £4.5m between April and June 2020.
William and Harry received the bulk of Princess Diana's £13m fortune when their mother died in 1997.
Harry told Oprah Winfrey this inheritance funded their US move: "I've got what my mum left me. Without that, we wouldn't have been able to do this."
Harry is also thought to have inherited millions from his great-grandmother, the Queen Mother.
It is not known whether the late Queen left him any money.
During her acting career, the Duchess of Sussex was reportedly paid $50,000 for each episode of the legal drama Suits. She appeared in more than 100 episodes.
Ms Markle also ran a lifestyle blog, and designed items for a Canadian fashion brand.
