Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's musical talent was already evident from his earliest childhood. He performed in public as a pianist for the first time at the age of nine, received composition lessons at the age of ten, wrote his first symphony at the age of twelve, and at the age of seventeen composed the concert overture to A Midsummer Night's Dream, which is still well known and popular today.
