18 de ago. de 1994 · I'm completely besotted with Gothic novels and The Monk was the only one out of the four that I had started but hadn't had the chance to finish so I was delighted to do so. Every one of these stories is a classic and an absolute must for fans of Gothic fiction, but The Monk is my favourite out of the four.

7 de jul. de 1994 · A brilliant, brilliant quartet of early Gothic novels. The Castle of Otranto: 4 stars. I found it comic in places, and rather abundant in euphemisms. Great story though, and the foundation of many subsequent Gothic novels. Vathek: 4 stars. Seemed to be more fantasy-gothic, but very haunting, especially at the end. The Monk: 5 stars.
