30 de nov. de 2022 · Arago was born at Estagel, a small village of 3,000 near Perpignan, in the département of Pyrénées-Orientales, France, where his father held the position of Treasurer of the Mint. His parents were François Bonaventure Arago (1754–1814) and Marie Arago (1755–1845). Arago was the eldest of four brothers.

Alfred Arago (1815–1892), the second son of François, was a painter appreciated by his contemporaries. He was appointed General Inspector of Arts from 1852 to 1870, after which he found a position of director of a tobacco factory. The third son of François, Gabriel, died in 1832 aged 15.
