Entre todos los problemas que reúne con este método, cabe comentar la resolución completa de las ecuaciones de segundo grado de forma ax2 + bx = c y de las ecuaciones de tercer grado de forma x3 + ax = b con a y b positivos (Viète pone los cambios de variable sucesivos: "z = a/3x -x" e "y = x3" llevándolo de ese modo a una ecuación de segundo grado).

Viète, Francois (1540-1603) A non-professional French mathematician, also known under the latinized name of Vieta, who disclosed the way to modern symbolic algebra. He had a very brilliant legal career starting in his hometown Fontenay-le-Comte as the private lawyer of a noble family, and ended up as a personal counselor of King Henri III.
