2 de jul. de 2020 · Short Biography. Frances Brandon was born 16th July 1517 and died 20th November 1559. She was the daughter of Mary Tudor, younger sister of King Henry VIII and Charles Brandon, Duke of Suffolk. Her mother had been married to the French king Louis XII and when he died she had married Brandon without the King’s permission.
Hace 4 días · Frances Brandon lived on until 20 November 1559 and was buried at Westminster Abbey at the expense of her cousin Queen Elizabeth I. Frances' second daughter Lady Catherine Grey, considered the beauty of the family, later fell foul of Elizabeth I when she married Edward Seymour, 1st Earl of Hertford.
21 de nov. de 2013 · On this day in 1559, Frances Brandon, Duchess of Suffolk, died at Richmond. She was buried in St Edmund’s Chapel, Westminster Abbey, on the orders of her cousin, Queen Elizabeth I, and her second husband, Adrian Stokes, erected a tomb in her memory. Frances was born on the 16th July 1517, St Francis’s Day, at Hatfield.
Frances grew up familiar with court life, as Charles Brandon was the closest companion of Henry VIII, and the king's sister was familiar with his queen, Catherine of Aragon. The Princess Mary was only a year older, and the two girls developed a lasting friendship, interrupted when the king decided to divorce Catherine and the child Mary was sent away from court and declared a bastard.
