Francis Russell, 5th Duke of Bedford (23 July 1765 – 2 March 1802) was an English aristocrat and Whig politician, responsible for much of the development of central Bloomsbury.

Francis Russell, 5th duke of Bedford (born July 23, 1765—died March 2, 1802, Woburn, Bedford, Eng.) was the 5th duke of Bedford, the eldest son of Francis Russell, marquess of Tavistock, the eldest son of the 4th duke; he succeeded his grandfather as duke of Bedford in 1771.

This miniature is one of William Grimaldi’s (1751-1830) copies of John Hoppner’s full-length portrait painted for the duke of Bedford and still at Woburn Abbey. Another is in the Royal Collection (RCIN 405408).
