Frederick Louis, also known as Friedrich Ludwig, was born in Hanover, Holy Roman Empire, and was the eldest son and heir apparent of King George II of Great Britain. Despite his position, he became estranged from his parents and was left in the care of his grand-uncle in Hanover for 14 years while his parents moved to Great Britain.

His body lay in state for a month at St James' Palace until his funeral at Westminster Abbey on 7th December (parallel funerals were also held in Oxford, Cambridge and Bristol).
