Descendants of Christian IX of Denmark. Christian IX of Denmark (April 8, 1918 – January 29, 1906) ruled Denmark from 1863 to 1906. Known as the "father-in-law of Europe", [1] he and his wife, Louise of Hesse-Kassel (September 7, 1817 – September 29, 1898), became the ancestors of many members of European royalty.
Born into the House of Glücksburg, Frederik was the elder son of King Christian X and Queen Alexandrine. He became crown prince when his father succeeded as king in 1912. As a young man, he was educated at the Royal Danish Naval Academy. In 1935, he married Princess Ingrid of Sweden.
