Frederick William (III), Landgrave of Hesse-Kassel (German: Friedrich Wilhelm Nikolaus Karl, 15 October 1854 – 14 October 1888) was (titular) Elector of Hesse-Kassel. Early life [ edit ] He was the eldest son of Frederick William George Adolph of Hesse-Kassel-Rumpenheim and his second wife Princess Anna of Prussia .
Frederick William was born in Potsdam on 3 August 1770 as the son of Frederick William II of Prussia and Frederica Louisa of Hesse-Darmstadt. He was considered to be a shy and reserved boy, which became noticeable in his particularly reticent conversations, distinguished by the lack of personal pronouns.
Married firstly Alexandra Nikolaevna of Russia (1825–1844) daughter of Nicholas I, Emperor of Russia and secondly Princess Anna of Prussia (1836–1918) daughter of Prince Charles of Prussia. Frederick William was born in Potsdam on August 3rd, 1770, the son of King Frederick William II and Frederica Louisa of Hesse-Darmstadt. He married in 1793 Louisa von Mecklemburg-Strelitz (with whom he had nine children) then, in 1824, Augusta von Harrach. He became King of Prussia on November 16th, 1797. He passed away in Berlin on June 7th, 1840.
