Albert II was the margrave of Brandenburg-Kulmbach (Brandenburg-Bayreuth) from 1527 to 1553. He was a member of the Franconian branch of the House of Hohenzollern. Because of his bellicose nature, Albert was given the cognomen Bellator during his lifetime. Posthumously, he became known as Alcibiades.

His reign was marked by ineffective governance during the Thirty Years' War. He was the father of Frederick William, the "Great Elector" .

John Frederick, Margrave of Brandenburg-Ansbach succeeded his father Albert II as margrave of Ansbach in 1667. He married his second wife Princess Eleonore Erdmuthe of Saxe-Eisenach on 4 November 1681. Their daughter Wilhelmine Charlotte Caroline, Margravine of Brandenburg-Ansbach married George II of Great Britain before he became king.
Albert was the second son of Margrave John Frederick and his first wife, Johanna Elisabeth of Baden-Durlach. Due to the untimely death of his older brother, Leopold Frederick at the age of two, Christian Albert was designated as heir apparent in 1676, succeeding his father as Margrave of Brandenburg-Ansbach upon his death in 1686.
George Frederick reigned in his native Ansbach, Franconia and Jägerndorf, Upper Silesia since 1556 and, after the death of his cousin Albert Alcibiades in 1557, also in Kulmbach. He took over the administration of the Duchy of Prussia in 1577, when the then-reigning Duke Albert Frederick became ill.
