On 18th May 1918 the Battalion was subjected to severe bombing by enemy aircraft. Three officers were killed during this raid and one more died from wounds the following day. Sadly, one of the men killed that day was 2nd Lieutenant George Hamilton.
George FitzGeorge Hamilton was commissioned into the Grenadier Guards as a Second Lieutenant and was sent to France to join his unit in late 1917 or early 1918 about the time of his nineteenth birthday.
