    His married his first cousin Sophia at Celle on 22nd November 1682. The marriage was dissolved in 1694.

    George I was crowned on 20th October 1714. He could not speak very much English and the ceremonies had to be conducted mostly in Latin as his ministers could not speak German.

    He died on 22nd June 1727 while on a visit to Germany and was buried in Hanover. In 1957 his coffin was moved to the mausoleum at Herrenhausen.

  6. 18 de ene. de 2023 · On 1 August 1714, having only ever visited England once (around 1680), George became King George I of Great Britain and Ireland. He was, at 54 years old, the oldest monarch to ever take the throne. There was no immediate and organised opposition to this switch of royal houses.
