George Montagu, 1st Earl of Halifax (also spelt George Montague) PC KB (c. 1684 – 9 May 1739), of Horton, Northamptonshire, was a British politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1705 to 1715 when he became a peer.
Charles Montagu, 1st Earl of Halifax, KG, PC, FRS (16 April 1661 – 19 May 1715) was an English statesman and poet. He was the grandson of the 1st Earl of Manchester and was eventually ennobled himself, first as Baron Halifax in 1700 and later as Earl of Halifax in 1714.
A member of the prominent Montagu family, he was the son of George Montagu, younger son of Henry Montagu, 1st Earl of Manchester (see the Duke of Manchester). George Montague, 1st Earl of Halifax (bef 1685-1739) was the son of Edward Montagu and Elizabeth Pelham. He m. (1) Ricarda Postuma Saltonstall, daughter of Richard Saltonstall and Silence Parkhurst, on 8 April 1706 and (2) Lady Mary Lumley, daughter of Richard Lumley, 1st Earl of Scarbrough.
