George Ripley. A brilliant scholar, George Ripley is best known as the Transcendentalist who founded the utopian community at Brook Farm. He was born in Greenfield, Massachusetts, October 3, 1802. He graduated at Harvard in 1823, spent three years at the Divinity School, and was settled over the Purchase Street Church in Boston, November 8, 1826.
