George Wishart (also Wisehart; c. 1513 – 1 March 1546) was a Scottish Protestant Reformer and one of the early Protestant martyrs burned at the stake as a heretic. George Wishart was the son of James and brother of Sir John of Pitarrow, both ranking themselves on the side of the Reformers.

16 de abr. de 2024 · George Wishart was an early martyr of the Reformation in Scotland. While a teacher of Greek at Montrose, Wishart was accused of heresy and went to Cambridge (1538), where he became acquainted with the Reformer Hugh Latimer, himself later martyred.
Wishart, George (c.1513–1546), evangelical preacher and martyr, was according to a later family account a younger son of James Wishart of Pitarrow and Elizabeth Learmont; he was the brother of Justice Clerk James Wishart of Pitarrow (d. 1524).
George Wishart was prepared to die rather than stop believing in the truth, once he had found it in the Bible. His life shows us the importance of preaching. His preaching around Scotland for over two years helped to transform the nation. Preaching is still what we need to change our country today.

10 de may. de 2021 · Following the deaths of the Glasgow martyrs in 1539, the council of the cruel hunted for more victims, finding six more that they killed in Perth. George Wishart was the next martyr after them, being hanged and burned at St Andrews in 1546.
