George XI or Giorgi XIor Gurgin Khan or Gorgin Khan (1651–1709), ruled Kartli, eastern Georgia, from 1676 to 1688 and again from 1703 to 1709. He is best known for his struggle, as a Safavid commander, against the rebel Afghan tribes that cost his life.
King Giorgi XI (Shahnawaz II; in Afghanistan he is known as Gurgin (Gorgin) Khan) of Kartli is one of the least studied historical figures in the history of Georgia. Once a vocal anti-Iranian leader, he ended up defending Iranian interests in Afghanistan, where he earned notoriety under the name of Gurgin Khan.
