George, Duke of Mecklenburg (German: Georg Herzog zu Mecklenburg; 5 October [O.S. 22 September] 1899 – 6 July 1963) was the head of the House of Mecklenburg-Strelitz from 1934 until his death. Through his father, he was a descendant of Emperor Paul I of Russia .

Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz (Sophia Charlotte; 19 May 1744 – 17 November 1818) was Queen of Great Britain and Ireland as the wife of King George III from their marriage on 8 September 1761 until her death in 1818.
Succession and marriage. A year later on 6 November 1816 Georg’s father died and he duly succeeded as grand duke. Having been in Switzerland at the time of his father’s death Georg immediately set about returning to Mecklenburg-Strelitz to assume the throne.
Origins. Statue of Niklot at the Schwerin Palace. While the origins of Mecklenburg-Strelitz go back to 1701 the House of Mecklenburg itself is one of the oldest royal houses in Europe. It is also unique among the German princely families in that it is of Slavic origins being descended from Niklot the Prince of the Obotrites.
