Scharnhorst’s continued dedication to his pupil’s growth is what drove Clausewitz to succeed and contribute greatly to the Prussian state and overall realm of military theory.
The study focuses on the most important Prussian military reformer--Gerhard Johann David von Scharnhorst, who in 1801 founded the Militarische Gesellschaft (Military Society) in Berlin. Gerhard Johann David Scharnhorst was born on 12 November 1755, in Borde-nau, a small village northwest of Hanover, the eldest son of Ernst Wilhelm Scharnhorst and Friedericke Wilhelmine Tegtmeyer. Their marriage, however, was against the will of the family Tegtmeyer who had other plans for their youngest daughter.
