GILBERT TALBOT, seventh Earl of Shrewsbury (1553-1616), the second son of George Talbot, sixth earl, by his first marriage, was born on 20 Nov. 1553. Before he was fifteen he was on 9 Feb. 1568 married to Mary Cavendish, daughter of Sir William Cavendish of Chatsworth, whose widow, ' Bess of Hardwick ', was on the point of marrying his father.

Mary married William Herbert, third Earl of Pembroke. Elizabeth married Henry Grey, eighth Earl of Kent, and Alathea married Thomas Howard, second Earl of Arundel.
Gilbert Talbot, 7th Earl of Shrewsbury was the son of George Talbot, 6th Earl of Shrewsbury and Gertrude Manners. He was born on 20 November 1552. He married Mary Cavendish, daughter of Sir William Cavendish and Elizabeth Hardwick, between 9 February 1567 and 1568. He died on 8 May 1616 at age 63. He gained the title of 7th Earl of Shrewsbury.
