Gotha, city, Thuringia Land (state), central Germany. It lies on the northern edge of the Thuringian Forest, 13 miles (21 km) west of Erfurt. First mentioned as the Frankish villa Gotaha in 775, when it was given to the abbey of Hersfeld, it was fortified in 930 and chartered in 1189–90.
Top 1 – Die Orangerie. Orangerie in Gotha. Der Orangeriegarten ist vom Frühjahr bis zum Herbst üppig mit Blumen geschmückt und lädt zum Verweilen ein. Die spätbarocke Orangerie ist Teil des Schlossparks, welcher zum Schloss Friedenstein gehört. Sie ist die größte Anlage ihrer Art in Thüringen und eine richtige Augenweide.
