Granville James Leveson-Gower, 5th Earl Granville MC (6 December 1918 – 31 October 1996) was a British soldier, banker, peer, and landowner, a member of the House of Lords from 1953 until his death. He was laird of North Uist from 1960 and Lord Lieutenant of the Western Isles from 1983 to 1993. [1]
Early life. Leveson-Gower was born on 25 February 1838 in the prominent Leveson-Gower family. He was the son of William Leveson-Gower of Titsey Place and Emily Josephine Eliza (née Doyle) Leveson-Gower. He was a great-great grandson of John Leveson-Gower, 1st Earl Gower, descending from his youngest son, John Leveson-Gower, a Royal Navy officer.

Granville Leveson-Gower was born 4 August 1721 probably at Trentham, Staffordshire, and certainly baptised there 20 August, the third but eventually eldest surviving son of John Leveson-Gower, 1st Earl Gower, and his first wife, Lady Evelyn Pierrepont.
