Gretchen the Greenhorn is an American silent film released in 1916. The film stars Dorothy Gish as a Dutch girl who emigrates to America to be with her father; they become entangled with a counterfeiting ring.

Gretchen the Greenhorn is on nobody’s list of landmark cinematic classics; it’s one of the dozens of program features produced by D.W. Griffith’s Fine Arts company in 1915-16, released to theaters to keep the pot boiling while Griffith himself was preoccupied with production of his massive epic, Intolerance.
