Gytha Thorkelsdóttir (c. 997 – c. 1069), also called Githa, was a Danish noblewoman. She was the wife of Godwin, Earl of Wessex, and the mother of King Harold Godwinson and Edith of Wessex, the latter of whom was the queen consort of King Edward the Confessor.

9 de abr. de 2006 · Gytha Thorkelsdottir (Old English: Gȳða Þorkelsdōttir), also called Githa, was the daughter of Thorgil Sprakling (also called Thorkel).[1] She married the Anglo-Saxon nobleman Godwin of Wessex. They had a large family together, of whom five sons became earls at one time or another, three remaining earls in 1066:

When Gytha Thorkelsdóttir was born in 0997, in Hålland, Jämtland, Sweden, her father, Thorgils the Strong "Prince of Sweden" Sprakaleg Styrjornsson, was 39 and her mother, Queen Senfria or Sigrid Sprakling Haraldsdoittir of Sweden, was 42. She married Godwin Wulfnothsen Earl of Wessex from 1019 to 1020.

9 de mar. de 2014 · Still, Gytha Thorkelsdóttir was related to so many famous (and mostly tragic) figures that it is amazing we know so little about her. Raised in Denmark, she was the sister of Earl Ulf who served Canute as Regent of Denmark before his unfortunate death (reportedly killed by Canute’s order).
Princess Gytha could be based on the historical figure, Gytha Thorkelsdóttir, who marries the real Earl Godwin. They have many children, including Harold Godwinson, who becomes King of England, and Edith of Wessex, who marries King Edward the Confessor.
