Hannibal Sehested (1609 – 23 September 1666) was a Dano-Norwegian statesman and son-in-law of King Christian IV. He served as Governor-general of Norway from 1642 to 1651. He fought in the Torstenson War against Sweden and implemented many reforms in Norway.

Norway, governed by Christian's son-in-law, Governor-General Hannibal Sehested, was a reluctant participant. The Norwegian populace opposed an attack on Sweden, which would only leave them open to counter-attack. Their opposition to Statholder Sehested's direction grew bitter and the war was lampooned as the "Hannibal War."

Su carrera política comenzó en 1632; con anterioridad, entre 1629 y 1632, realizó numerosos viajes por el extranjero. En este último año se produjo su vinculación con la corte del rey Christian IV de Dinamarca y Noruega.
