In der Kreisstadt Kreuzburg, wo er sich als Arzt niederließ, gewann er das Vertrauen der Mitbürger so entschieden, daß sie ihn bei der Einführung der Steinschen Städteordnung zum Bürgermeister wählten. Nach den Freiheitskriegen vermählte er sich mit Henriette Albertine Zebe, Landpredigerstochter aus Wüstebriese bei Ohlau († 1855).
