Henriette de Clèves, comtesse de Rethel et de Nevers, princesse souveraine d’Arches, est la fille de François de Clèves et de Marguerite de Bourbon. Le 4 mars 1565, elle épouse Ludovic de Gonzague, et c’est en mai 1580 qu’elle met au monde Charles, l’auguste fondateur de Charleville.
