Henry Bennet, 1st Earl of Arlington, KG, PC (1618 – 28 July 1685) was an English statesman. A supporter of the Royalists during the English Civil War, he joined the royal family in exile before returning to England at the Restoration in 1660.

Isabella Bennet was the only daughter of Henry Bennet, 1st Earl of Arlington, a Royalist commander, by his wife, Elisabeth of Nassau (1633–1718). Elisabeth was a daughter of Louis of Nassau-Beverweerd and thus a granddaughter of Maurice of Nassau, Prince of Orange , and a great-granddaughter of William the Silent .

After the Restoration, Charles made him a secretary of state (1662), and he became one of the king's closest advisers, a member of the Cabal.
Henry Bennet, 1st Earl of Arlington (1618 - July 28, 1685), was an English statesman. He was the son of Sir John Bennet of Dawley, Middlesex , and of Dorothy Crofts, was baptized at Little Saxham, Suffolk , in 1618, and was educated at Westminster School and Christ Church, Oxford .

In 1663 Bennet was elected Member of Parliament for Wallingford in a by-election to the Cavalier Parliament. He owed a lot of his influence to his brother, Henry Bennet, 1st Earl of Arlington. [3] He was created Lord Ossulston, Baron Ossulston on 24 November 1682. [1]
