Hace 2 días · The county's name was derived from Henry Bennet, the Earl of Arlington, which was a plantation along the Potomac River, and Arlington House, the family residence on that property. George Washington Parke Custis, grandson of First Lady Martha Washington, acquired the land in 1802. [4] .
